We love books in our home. They are everywhere. We have a lot of books and keeping up with them was a bit overwhelming. I was trying to find a balance between books in storage to rotate and books out for Charley to explore. I think I (finally) found what will work for us.
First, Charlotte has an Ikea Bekvam spice rack in her bedroom that we use to display seasonal books. I have a storage bin in the basement with seasonal & holiday books. These get rotated through out the year and displayed on this shelf. Her birthday is in a few weeks so I displayed some of our birthday books on this shelf.
We also utilize baskets to organize books that Charlotte will be able to independently pull out. Right now she is very engaged in touch & feel books and word books with real photographs. We have two baskets to display these types of books. They are in her room. A few other favorite books are kept in these baskets as well.
In our living room we have a corner devoted to Charlotte that includes a cube shelf (kindly given to use by a friend). On this shelf we store all of our board books & picture books. We also keep her art materials and books on this shelf. In the coming months we will also have a table & chair set here for her. The books that are too large for the shelf are in the pink basket.
I'd love to know how your family keeps books in your home and any organization tips you have!Labels: Books, Home Education, Montessori, Reggio, RIE, toys, Waldorf
